A new local bookstore has worked itself into my heart.
Absolutely Fiction Books is a small, but wonderful bookstore in Lufkin, Texas. I had been searching for a bookstore that was not apart of a large chain. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the large chains like Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million. But the cozy and unique feeling I get from a small bookstore is what makes me love reading so much.
It is small but wonderful. It has two levels and offers a very large children’s section. There is a good selection for each genre. I think that is what endeared me to this particular store. As a mother and an avid reader, finding and providing books for my little one is terribly important. The collection was vast, and it had versions of books that I had never seen before. What was even better was the reaction Jaxson had. He walked in and I could see the awe on his face. He said, “Oh wow mommy this is so cool! Can I get some books?”. I, of course, bought him some books and bookmarks. It was such a wonderful thing to experience with my baby. It made going to the bookstore and reading a gift that is shared between the two of us.
When I think of reading or books, I think about the entire process.
Going to the bookstore. Walking in and taking in all of the book covers and cozy nooks with comfy chairs and warm lighting.
Scanning the spines and covers for books that might be interesting. Sliding out that eye-catching book, and flipping through the pages to find the synopsis, and checking out a few chapters.
Walking around the store, discovering the genres and sections you wouldn’t have thought to read. Finding cute bookmarks, stickers, bookshelf decor, and the amazing little trinkets.
Walking up to purchase your finds, and having a conversation with the bookstore owner or employee. Trying not to hold up the line in your excitement to speak about books with a fellow bibliophile.
It makes reading that much more fun because we know that once we finish our great book we can make our way back to the bookstore. For me, I didn’t even wait to finish my book, I went back the next day, and then the next showing my sisters what I found.
